Meet Señor Garrido
Language is a doorway to other people, cultures, the world. Language is one of the ways (perhaps the main) humans communicate with each other. I am passionate about exploring the connections between these spoken/written communication codes. I particularly enjoy exploring the common and differentiating elements between English and Spanish, both linguistically and culturally! I love sharing these findings, and especially getting children excited about this path of exploration and communication.
Music is another big part of my life: I serve as the Music Director at St. Thomas the Apostle Church. I also enjoy performing solo piano, or collaborating with other musicians, especially with my wife, Alice, who is a wonderful soprano. I seem to find a way to link these spoken, written and performed musical languages.
I was born in Venezuela and moved to Spain when I was 9, where my core education happened and where my parents still live. I have lived in the USA for the last 20 years. My wife, Alice, Santiago (now in his "wonderful 2's"), baby daugher Julia, our two dogs and one cat certainly make for a house full of love and excitement.
I did my higher education in piano performance at the Royal Conservatory in Madrid, The Hartt School in Hartford, and the Yale School of Music.
In 2015, Alice and I did one of the most beautiful experiences of our lives: We biked the Camino de Santiago (the Way to Santiago-St. James),. This prompted the name of our first son. If you want to learn more about this, you can visit the blog I wrote at that time. Some of it is in Español!! :)
